Labrat
The mise-en-scene consists of many things that has synergy with and creates the iconography of a working place, typically within science. There's laboratory equipment such as flasks, a Bunsen burner chemicals and the protagonist's costume is a white lab coat, again iconic of a scientific working place. Towards the end of the labrat clip the editing creates a tense atmosphere as it becomes fast paced, almost montage like, it also consists of many close up shotsof lab equipment supporting the scientific element. The rest of the clip includes medium close-up shots of the protagonist in various scenes and the library, there is also a long shot of the protagonist entering the classroom. Finally there is a consistent non-diegetic voice over that is diegetic in only two scenes. There is also the non diegetic instrumental/sound bridge throughout the clip. Above all, many enigma codes are raised throughout such as what has the protagonist done that has created such a story?
The Experiment
There is a tense, action like atmosphere with the sudden change in the pace of the editing towards the end, the straight cuts speed up between the scenes. The theme of the film is revealed within the mise-en-scene, the research papers, maps and pictures creates a mystery, crime kind of genre whereas the digital animation, train and forest scenes would usually be seen in action genres. that are based around day to day life where the disequilibrium disrupts the events in the protagonists' routine. The clip consists of various shots: Long shots of buildings to establish the setting in the city. Medium shots that that establish smaller scenes such as the train station and the forest (it also helps us, the audience to identify what is happening), the medium close up shot of the wall and the protagonist is followed by the extreme close up of the information on the wall and sutures the audience into the narrative as the photos, maps and names are unknown to the reader and create enigma codes such as, who are they? and What is the information? The voiceover and alarm/white noise instrumental are the sound bridge and arenon diegetic, however the screams and breaths are diegetic.
