2. Gerry Lane is portrayed as the hero and you would expect that if he's the protagonist. He is a dominate representation of what we would normally see an American guy in movies; brave, heroic and patriotic. It's very well presented as he puts his life on the line to find a cure for this disease and injects himself with the virus which would act as a camouflage because the zombies don't want to eat up infected hosts. He is definitely a dominate portrayal.
3. Karin Lane is Gerry's wife and she is playing a traditional role of women in society. She is taking care of her children, feeding them and just caring for them as her husband is off to save the world. That is a very dominate presentation of women because it's a traditional view of what the role of women is. Later on the movie, Gerry was presumed dead and they were ordered off the ship that the US Navy were using for all healthy military people, they didn't want any non-essential people on the ship which also adds to the view that women don't play a powerful role in society or anywhere. Segen however plays an alternative representation of women as she is a solider and she is very man-like; gets her arm cut off, can shoot a rifle, physically and mentally strong which is unusual in women. She is first introduced when Gerry goes to Jerusalem and when the zombies find a way to climb over the great wall they built and she escorts him out to their plane that she had to wave her gun to stop. She is bitten by a zombie but Gerry forcefully cuts her arm off and she takes the pain with alcohol and other things that I don't know what they are, I don't do Science.
